Zoersel: the first Zero Waste Candidate City in Belgium | |
|
The city of Zoersel is set to become Belgium's first Zero Waste Certified City within three years, having already reduced residual waste to 81 kg per person, well below the Flemish region’s average. The town has already introduced innovative measures like a pay-as-you-throw system, further aiming to cut waste to 70 kg per person and ensure 90% of waste is recyclable or compostable. Zoersel's progress highlights the importance of community involvement and accountability, serving as an inspiring model for other municipalities in Belgium and across Europe.
