BIC-ZWE webinar: Untapping the potential of bio-waste – an update on the opportunities ahead and the challenges remaining

On 5 November 2024, the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) and ZWE will be co-hosting a webinar on the findings of the 2nd edition of their report, "Bio-waste generation in the EU: Current capture levels and future potential", which will be published on the same day.

According to the report, almost 75% of all food waste generated in the EU remains uncaptured, resulting in huge volumes of methane emissions from bio-waste in landfills and a vast untapped resource of potential compost, which could be used to enhance the health of Europe’s depleted soils.

By joining this webinar, you will get:
  • A comprehensive overview of bio-waste management across the EU, including the latest data on capture rates in the EU27 from the new report;
  • The opportunity to engage with report co-author Enzo Favoino on technical aspects and implementation strategies for bio-waste collection;
  • Insights from DG Environment on the EU's vision for better bio-waste management.

The event focused on cross-sectoral methane mitigation in the EU and was organised by a group of prominent environmental organisations, including Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Changing Markets Foundation, European Environmental Bureau, Environmental Investigation Agency, and ZWE.

VOICE: Launch of sustainable fashion hub "Fabric of Change"
In the last decade, ultra fast fashion has changed the clothing industry for the worse, making an already unsustainable sector even more damaging to people and planet. Demanding a shift to current industry practices, our member VOICE Ireland has launched the sustainable fashion platform "Fabric of Change". With the aim of raising awareness and pushing for circularity in the industry, the digital hub is full of tips, guides, testimonies, and deep-dives, helpful for both ordinary citizens and industry professionals.
ZWEE: Let's Do It Foundation becomes Zero Waste Estonia
At the annual Estonian Zero Waste Conference in early October, our member Let's Do It Foundation (LDIF) unveiled its new name and identity: Zero Waste Estonia (ZWEE). As the driving force behind the global Cleanup movement, this transition reflects the organisation's evolving vision and strategy. Zero Waste Estonia will focus on developing systemic solutions to prevent and eliminate waste at its source, in Estonia and abroad.
