Why Bordeaux is choosing composting over incineration | |
| |
In Bordeaux Métropole, a third of all residual waste is food waste destined for incineration. But what if there was a better way, and it made economic sense too? A new cost-benefit analysis by Lumec Ltd, commissioned by Bordeaux Métropole, compares the status quo with scaling up to 400 community composting sites serving 65% of target households.
The results are clear: community composting is not only environmentally superior, but economically preferable to incineration, generating net savings for the Métropole over a 5-year period compared to €2.4M in costs under the status quo. A compelling read for anyone working on food waste, composting, or local waste policy.
