| Weaving change: the 2025 Zero Waste Festival and the ZWE network’s contributions to the UN Day of Zero Waste | |
In March, the UN International Day of Zero Waste (which this year focused on textiles and fashion) was a big focus moment for the ZWE team and network.
Not only did our members host many activities around this Day and its 2025 focus on textile waste, but the 2025 Zero Waste Festival in Barcelona (co-organised by Rezero and Zero Waste Europe) was also one of the flagship events of this year's celebrations.
Bringing together 372 participants from across Europe, the Festival was a must-attend event for zero waste discussions and celebrations—from reuse to toxic-free products, from curbing textile waste to sharing good practices amongst zero waste municipalities. It served as another reminder that a future built on sufficiency, resilience, and wellbeing for all is within our grasp—and that all we need is collective action to turn it into a widespread reality.
Read our latest blog on the Festival's highlights, an overview of our members' events around textile waste, and more context around the UN International Day of Zero Waste. | |

| #ZeroWasteCities gets a new home on zerowasteeurope.eu | |
After months of 'construction mess', we're excited to finally unveil the new Zero Waste Cities Hub (ZWC) on zerowasteeurope.eu! The new Hub integrates and centralises all content and resources previously featured on zerowastecities.eu, making it much easier to find the right report or expert for your project.
Mini FAQ
- How can you find the Zero Waste Cities Hub? It's easy! Just go to the menu bar at the top of the page and click the #ZeroWasteCities button.
- What about the Zero Waste Cities Map? Don't worry, we brought it with us in the move; you can find it on the Hub right here.
- Where are the experts? We've built a dedicated Experts page, just like the old one.
- You must have left something behind—where are all the old blogs and reports? We were very intentional about not losing any of the resources on the website; old ZWC blogs can be found here, tools and reports here, and of course, the State of Zero Waste Municipalities Report (SZWMR) is prominently featured on the hub as well.

| Komunala Škofja Loka: Cutting single-use waste with reusable cup rentals | |
Our member Ekologi brez meja (EBM) has been supporting the Slovenian waste management company Komunala Škofja Loka in launching an innovative reusable cup rental service for local events. Since March 2024, the initiative has prevented 23,000 single-use cups from becoming waste through a simple €2 deposit system. Event organizers have embraced the service, finding it both more affordable than disposables and environmentally friendly.
Part of the Elevating Reuse In Cities (ERIC) project, this successful model is now inspiring other Slovenian municipalities to develop similar systems, demonstrating how reuse can be seamlessly integrated into community gatherings when properly supported.

CE Portugal: Academia REPARA trains citizens to repair | | Circular Economy Portugal (CE Portugal) has partnered with Electrão and Repair Café Lisboa to launch Academia REPARA - an informal repair training programme that teaches the general public how to fix broken electronics over 12 sessions. With the first edition of Academia REPARA finishing in March, CE Portugal found that many discarded items still function or need only minor repairs, and that the participants experience genuine joy when successfully diagnosing and repairing items. The initiative supports the EU's Right to Repair Directive, and will conclude with graduates applying their skills at a community Repair Café event.
